EduMe Training Creation

2024 – 2025

My Role

I joined EduMe at the end of 2024 as part of the team responsible for the core training creation tool and learner experience.

EduMe has a small product organisation, with three designers working across three product teams.

What is EduMe?

EduMe is a mobile-based training platform tailored for deskless workers.

It assists businesses in providing engaging, bite-sized learning experiences to enhance workforce productivity, knowledge retention, and compliance.

The problem

There are two distinct training formats in EduMe, both designed for bite-sized learning. However, training creators often struggle to select the right format, leading to confusion over the available features—particularly since some features are exclusive to specific formats. This ambiguity results in a fragmented experience for customers.

Moreover, the training creation tool itself is complex, with an overly cluttered interface that makes the process unintuitive. We viewed this as an opportunity to not only simplify the selection of training formats but also to introduce foundational improvements to the training creation experience.

Tool Capabilities

We strip down all EduMe training tool capabilities including on both Course and Guide formats.

Without adding or removing any of the capabilities, we have started to think the new structure as these capabilities at the core.

Research

Understanding Customers

EduMe trainings are utilised by over a million learners every year, yet our customer base comprises only around 60 organisations. This unique dynamic improves the efficiency of our research in two key ways:

  1. We can engage directly with our most critical and dissatisfied customers, who represent the majority of reported issues.
  2. We can analyse the types of trainings they create and the methods they use to understand their workflows.
Key Findings

To gain deeper insights, we conducted extensive customer interviews and reviewed hundreds of diverse training modules.

This research enabled us to identify common patterns, understand the core structure customers follow when constructing training, and develop a confident perspective on their needs and challenges.

Solution

Simplifying the Experience

After analysing how our customers create training, we discovered that most courses and guides follow similar patterns. Based on these insights, we simplified the training format by combining all capabilities into two efficient slide types.

With this solid foundation established, we focused on improving the overall training creation experience.

Validation

Testing

We have started to conduct two different types of usability tests. One is moderated and the other is unmoderated, carried out through a platform called Maze.

Through both, we have identified many areas for improvement and updated the experience each time before the next test.

The result has become an experience in which we have high confidence.

Beyond the Training Editor

Redefining the Foundation

Alongside the new training format and editor, I led a comprehensive overhaul of EduMe’s app page structure, information architecture and an entirely new design system. I facilitated and executed the entire process while collaborating closely with the other designers in the company.

We iterated together, ensuring that the final experience was a collective decision. It was crucial that everyone felt enthusiastic and aligned with the vision, creating a solution we all anticipated implementing.

Potential Outcomes

Business Impact

Although the full experience is not live yet, we are confident that it will have a highly positive impact on the business. These are the key metrics we expect to see the impact on:

  • Conversion from training creation to publishing within 30 days
  • Monthly learner retention
  • Learner course completion rate
Training Creation

After significant testing and discussions with customers, we anticipate that the simplification in our processes will facilitate the ease of creating training.

A natural outcome of this will be the democratisation of training creation, enabling more individuals to develop training rather than limiting it to dedicated content creators within each company.

The Future

In addition to staying ahead of the competition, the changes associated with this project will allow us to experiment with integrating training creation into partner people management apps such as Workday or Beekeeper.

This will enable EduMe to establish a much stronger connection and collaboration with partner companies, and it will accelerate discussions regarding a potential merger or acquisition.
